Newly Diagnosed with PKU: Experiences and Tips on Using Palynziq 2.5mg/0.5ml Inj, 0.5ml
Hello, Reddit! I was recently diagnosed with PKU and started using Palynziq 2.5mg/0.5ml Inj, 0.5ml. I'm looking for some insights and experiences from others who have been on this medication. Has anyone else found Palynziq helpful in managing their PKU? What side effects have you experienced, and how have you dealt with them? Any tips on making the injection process easier? I'm also curious about how it compares to other treatments. Thanks in advance for your help!

How often do you need to inject yourself? I've heard it can be daily or every other day. I wish there were more long-term studies on this medication.
Do you use a specific brand of syringes? I've heard some are more comfortable than others.
I've been on Palynziq for about a year now, and it's made a huge difference in my phenylalanine levels. I still get the occasional headache and joint pain, but it's a small price to pay for better control. I use a rotating injection site to minimize irritation. Do you have a dietitian on your team who helps manage your PKU? They can be a great resource!
it's been a bit of a journey, but I'm glad I stuck with it. I had to try a few different injection techniques before I found one that worked for me. If you're struggling with the injections, don't hesitate to talk to your doctor or a nurse. They can provide some great tips and tricks. Also, join support groups if you can. You're not alone! Also, have you tried applying a warm compress to the injection site afterward? It can help reduce any discomfort. I hope it works for you. Use the FDA hotline if you feel something's wrong.
I had a friend who tried Palynziq, the allergic reaction was rough. That's why they did not continue using it. I know they ended up changing their diet.
I've been on Palynziq for six months, and I'd say the side effects are manageable. I've had a bit of upset stomach and diarrhea, but nothing too severe. I find that taking it with a small snack helps. Before I started, I was pretty scared but I've noticed my energy levels going up. I have to be careful of my protein intake but it's gotten pretty easy with the right apps. Try it if it's helping you. Just be mindful of how your body reacts to the medication.
