Hey everyone, I was recently prescribed Alprazolam ER 0.5mg tablets for my panic disorder. The pharmacist gave me a list of potential side effects, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this medication. I know it's a benzodiazepine, so I'm expecting some sedative effects, but has anyone had any unusual side effects or had it not work at all? Did you experience any of the serious side effects? Looking for any and all input, thanks!

I’ve had a friend who had to go to the ER for an allergic reaction. It was terrifying. He had hives and trouble breathing, and it was clear that he needed immediate medical attention. If you experience anything like that, go to the ER right away. Don’t wait it out.

This is going to sound crazy, but I was experiencing some weird sexual side effects. I didn't connect it to the Alprazolam at first. Just something to be aware of.

I got prescribed this too, but I’m waiting on an alternative medication. I’ve seen too many reports of people becoming dependent on it and experiencing issues coming off of it. I’m not trying to risk addiction, so I’m weighing the risks and benefits.

I've been on Alprazolam ER for a few months, and it's been a lifesaver for my panic attacks. I did experience some dizziness and drowsiness at first, but it subsided after a week. Just be careful with driving or operating heavy machinery, especially when you start taking it. Also, keep an eye on any changes in mood or behavior, just to be safe.

Did anyone else gain weight on this stuff? I feel like I've put on at least 10 pounds since I started taking it.

I’m on a lower dose and it’s been okay, but I have heard from my friends whose dosage is higher than 0.5mg that it can cause more issues. Just be open with your doctor about how you’re feeling and how the meds are affecting you, okay?

Same here, the drowsiness was a bummer but it got better after a while. I wish I had known about the erotic dreams too, lmao.

My doctor warned me about the potential for depression and suicidal thoughts. Luckily, I haven't experienced that, but it's something to be aware of. If you or someone you know starts feeling that way, get help immediately.

I've been on this for 8 months and other than some drowsiness, I've been great. I was worried about the long-term effects, but my doctor said that as long as I take it as prescribed, I should be fine. Just make sure you're checking in with your doctor regularly!

I had a terrible experience with Alprazolam ER. I started having really bad memory problems and confusion. I stopped taking it and went back to my doctor. My doctor switched me to a different medication and it's been much better. Don't suffer through bad side effects, it's worth talking to your doctor about alternatives.
