Paricalcitol is a vitamin D analog specifically designed to help manage parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels in patients with kidney disease. By lowering PTH without causing harmful calcium or phosphorus build-up, it offers a critical benefit for those with chronic kidney disease. However, like any medication, it comes with its own set of potential side effects. I've been on Paricalcitol for a few months now, and while it's helped manage my PTH levels, I've noticed some side effects that have been a bit concerning. I'd love to hear from others who have similar experiences or tips on managing these issues. The most common side effects I've encountered are mild and manageable, such as diarrhea, upset stomach, and dizziness. However, I've also experienced some more severe symptoms like bone pain and unusual thirst, which have been quite alarming. I'm curious to know if anyone else has had similar experiences and how they've coped. Are these symptoms part of the typical side effect profile, or could they indicate something more serious?

This stuff is a lifesaver. So much better than calcitriol which gave me horrible itching.

I had to stop taking Paricalcitol because I kept getting terrible headaches and dizziness. We switched to a different medication and I feel much better. It obviously works for some people, but if you experience severe symptoms like me, it’s important to advocate for yourself and seek alternative options. Always trust your instincts.

I wish they'd talk more about the risk of seizures. My friend experienced a few when starting this and it was terrifying. She had to discontinue.

I've had some really bad side effects with Paricalcitol, particularly with my calcium levels. I ended up in the hospital with symptoms of hypercalcemia, including severe weakness, confusion, and bone pain. It took a while for my levels to stabilize, and I'm now on a much lower dose. If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, don't wait—get to the ER right away. It's also worth mentioning that I was taking other supplements that may have contributed to the issue. Be careful with calcium supplements and vitamin D intake. And drink more water.

Has anyone else experienced frequent urination? It's been driving me crazy. I've had to get up multiple times at night, which is really disruptive to my sleep.

Seriously, this medication saved my life. I was on dialysis for years, and Paricalcitol has been a game-changer. The side effects were annoying at first but nothing I couldn't handle. Just be cautious, follow your doctor's advice, and stay hydrated—it makes a big difference.

Just a heads up, I felt like Paricalcitol made me super thirsty. It’s probably because it balances out the calcium, but it was weird. I drank a bunch of water and it settled.

I’ve been on Paricalcitol for a few months and have noticed some joint pain along with mild dizziness. My doctor advised me to take it in the evening to avoid dizziness during the day. I still get a little pain in my joints, but it's manageable. I think I might try some gentle exercises to see if that helps.
