I've been on dialysis for a while now, and my doctor prescribed Parsabiv 5mg/ml to help manage my parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels, which are high due to kidney disease. The drug is given as an injection during my dialysis session and seems to be working so far, but I've had some concerns about the potential side effects. I know it helps with keeping my bones healthy by lowering PTH, but what can I expect in terms of side effects? Have any of you experienced any really bad side effects?

Mild side effects are common — like headaches and nausea, but I freaked out when I saw black stool. After calling the doctor and going to the ER it turned out it wasn't from the medication but from food I ate. Just make sure to tell your doctor about any bleeding or bruising.

I've been on Parsabiv for about 6 months now. I did experience some nausea and headaches at first, but they've mostly gone away. It's important to stay in touch with your doctor during the treatment, even if you feel okay. Keep your eyes open for those serious side effects. Like you, I know it's all about keeping my bones strong, but I'm glad I'm still alive and kicking to be honest.

I think the most important thing is regular bloodwork so you can catch any side effects early.

I've heard that some people experience allergic reactions. If you notice any signs like rash, hives, or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately.

Here's a tip for anyone just starting out: Stay hydrated, even when you have dialysis sessions. This helped me a lot from making my sessions less painful and my body feel less crummy.

Haven't experienced any nasty side effects from Parsabiv. I was worried about side effects because of my family history of heart disease. I have to check in with my doctor regularly but so far so good.

I'm not sure how long you've been on it, but if you're like me you'll notice those serious side effects only in the beginning of the treatment if ever. But I'd still discuss any concerns with your doctor.
