I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy next week and my doctor prescribed PEG 3350-Kcl-nacl Solution (2pouch) for prep. I've heard horror stories from friends, but I'm hoping to find some tips to make this as smooth as possible. Any advice from those who've been there, done that? Also, what kind of diet should I follow before starting the prep? I've read horrible things about the side effects, so I'm really concerned, especially about the vomiting and electrolyte imbalances. I know I should drink plenty of clear liquids, but can anyone recommend a flavor to make the prep drink more palatable? I've seen recipes online but I want to know what worked for others.

I had mine last year and the prep was brutal. I started early morning and finished at night I had around 10-12 trips to the bathroom. I found that Gatorade helps with the electrolyte balance, but I started to feel nauseous about halfway through. Just be prepared to be miserable for a day and know that it's only temporary.

I had to take some breaks while drinking the prep but it wasn't too bad. The worst part was the bloating and the rumbling stomach, but it was only temporary. And don't forget, you can't eat anything solid the day before your colonoscopy either, so plan to eat a big meal the day before you go on the clear liquids. And the night before, eat a lot of things that you know will make you go and go and go. Like greasy and fatty food.

Remember to plan for the night before it. I made a mistake by eating a lot that day, and I regretted it. It's tempting to eat as much as you like on the last day but I knew this time it wouldn't be worth it. Stick to a clear liquid diet, not just on the day before, but even earlier if possible. I've also noticed that if you start the liquid diet a day earlier, the prep comes easier.

I wish I could have started taking the prep earlier, but mine was scheduled so late in the day.

Just hold on to the thought that it's worth all the trouble to make sure you have a clean colonoscopy. It's necessary so that the doctors can get a clear view of everything. As for the taste, I found that mixing it with a bit of lemon juice helped to make it more bearable. Definitely give it a try!

It’s just one day of bad time, but it’s so worth it. Make sure you stay very near to your bathroom. You’ll be using it a lot.

Don't forget to ask your doctor about any medications you can take to help with nausea and vomiting. I was given some anti-nausea pills that really helped. Also, make sure to stay hydrated throughout the process, even if you're not thirsty. And don't drink anything else except clear liquids.
