I was recently prescribed Phenobarbital/Hyoscyamine/Atropine/Scopolamine Elixir 480ml. The doctor said it's going to help with my IBS symptoms by calming my gut, reducing spasms, and providing a mild sedative effect. The anticholinergic ingredients (hyoscyamine, atropine, scopolamine) will relax muscles in the gut and reduce secretions, while phenobarbital will calm me. Has anyone used this medication before? I'm a bit nervous about the potential side effects but my doctor assured me the benefits outweigh the risks if used as directed. However, I’m curious to know how others have experienced it. If you've been on this, what should I expect?

This combo really helped with the spasms and cramping, but it didn't do much for the bloating. Everyone's body reacts differently, so it's worth a shot, I guess.

I've noticed people saying they either love it or hate it. I'm curious if there's a particular type of person (young, old, with other comorbidities, etc) who seem to fare better with it. Anyone have any insights on that?

I've been on this for a few months now, it's been a game-changer for me. The only side effect I've noticed is some dry mouth, but it's worth it for the relief from IBS symptoms.

I'm a bit worried about the calming effect from phenobarbital. I need to stay alert for my job. How has this affected others in similar situations?

I've had this medication prescribed to me before and I had issues with the diuretic effects. I was constantly needing to go to the bathroom. However, it was a blessing for my digestive issues. I just had to manage it around my daily routine. I was also surprised it didn't make me feel too drowsy which was a plus.

I had to stop taking it because it made me feel really dizzy and sleepy all the time. It was hard to function normally. My doctor switched me to something else.

This stuff tastes absolutely terrible. I had to mix it with apple juice to get it down. But it did help with my symptoms, so it was worth the hassle. Though I'd rather take a less nasty-tasting medication if I was given the choice.

They told me to be on the lookout for Stevens-Johnson syndrome. I had no idea what that was until I looked it up! Thankfully I didn't get it. But yeah, if you see any severe skin reactions, get to a doctor ASAP.

If you're breastfeeding, this medication is not recommended. Make sure to consult your doctor first. The anticholinergic ingredients can affect milk production and the baby's central nervous system.

I had a really bad reaction to the anticholinergic ingredients. I ended up with severe constipation and muscle cramps. Definitely keep an eye out for those symptoms and talk to your doctor immediately if you experience them.
