Hi everyone, I'm planning a trip from Lucca to Chiusi-Chianciano Terme and I'm looking for advice on the best route to take and some must-see stops along the way. I've heard that the journey itself can be quite scenic, but I'm not sure about the best way to make the most of it. I'm also considering renting a car for the trip, but I'm not sure if that's the best option. If anyone has any tips or recommendations, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

I did this trip last summer. The best stop was definitely Montepulciano. The wine tasting there was fantastic, and the town itself is very charming. I would recommend times to visit in the late afternoon to avoid the peak tourist times and heat.

If you're interested in history, make sure to stop in Chiusi. There are ancient Etruscan ruins that are fascinating to explore. I took a guided tour and learned so much about the local history.

What about the food? Any must-try places along the way?

I agree, the SR2 is the way to go. Make sure to stop in Pienza! It's a beautiful little town with incredible views and amazing food. You can also visit the nearby Val d'Orcia area, which is gorgeous. Worth it!

I wouldn't recommend the highway. It's faster, but you'll miss out on all the charm of the countryside. The scenic route is definitely worth the extra time.
