I've been researching Dexmedetomidine, also known as Precedex, as it was used during a recent hospital stay in the ICU. It's a sedative given through an IV to help patients feel calm and sleepy, which sounds great, but I'm curious about the side effects and experiences others have had. It helps you relax without significantly affecting your breathing, unlike some other sedatives. Some of the serious side effects include signs of allergic reactions, abnormal heartbeat, and breathing difficulties, which are alarming. Has anyone experienced significant side effects or any tips for managing the common ones like upset stomach and constipation?

I've used Precedex during procedures and it worked well for keeping patients sedated without affecting their breathing too much. The most common side effect I've seen is dry mouth, but it's usually not a big deal. It's important to monitor for any signs of allergic reactions, though. I once had a patient who developed a rash and we had to stop the infusion immediately.

I work in the ICU and have seen Precedex used quite a bit. It's very effective for short-term sedation, but we always monitor patients closely for any signs of severe reactions. The breathing difficulties can be serious, so it's crucial to have the right equipment and staff ready. The common side effects are usually manageable with minor adjustments to care.

Just wanted to add that it's crucial to report any side effects to the FDA. Even if they seem minor, it helps build a better understanding of the medication's effects. You will never know if something is serious unless others report it too!

I had dexmedetomidine for a long procedure and did not experience any side effects other than feeling very relaxed. My family was concerned about the breathing part but my nurse assured them it was very minimal. In fact I remember waking up feeling refreshed and not groggy at all.

Precedex was a lifesaver for me during a major surgery. It kept me calm and relaxed, and I didn't experience any serious side effects. A bit of dry mouth, but nothing too bad. Would recommend it based on my experience.

I just started feeling really dizzy and lightheaded after my infusion and I have a persistent headache that doesn't seem to go away. Any advice on how to deal with these side effects?
