I was diagnosed with ALS a year ago, and my neurologist prescribed Riluzole 50mg tablets. I've been taking them for about 6 months now, and I wanted to share my experience with anyone else who might be considering or currently taking this medication. Riluzole is supposed to slow down the progression of ALS by protecting nerve cells from glutamate, but I'm not sure if I've noticed a significant difference yet. I've experienced some ups and downs with the side effects, but I'll talk about that more in a bit. I'd love to hear from others who are taking this medication and how it's going for them. Also, if anyone has any tips on managing the side effects, I'm all ears! Let's start a conversation about Riluzole and share our experiences to help each other out.

I heard that Riluzole can cause fatigue. Has anyone else experienced this? I feel exhausted all the time, and I'm not sure if it's the disease or the medication.

I've only been on Riluzole for a couple of months, but so far, so good. No major side effects yet, and I feel like my symptoms haven't progressed as quickly as my doctor expected. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

My doctor told me to monitor my liver function closely while on Riluzole. They said it can cause liver problems, so regular blood tests are a must. Has anyone else had to deal with this?

I wish people would stop saying 'it's just a pill.' It's not just a pill when it's the only thing standing between you and rapid disease progression. But yes, managing side effects is key, and I'm glad there's a community to help with that.

I've been on Riluzole for almost 2 years now, and I can say that it's definitely helped slow down the progression of my ALS. I've had some stomach issues, but nothing too severe. Make sure to take it with food to minimize the side effects.

My doctor said Riluzole might increase my survival rate, but I’m leaning more on the nutritional advice and exercise to manage my symptoms.

I'm glad you brought up the importance of sharing experiences. It can be really isolating dealing with ALS, so knowing we're not alone is a big help.

This is awesome, thanks for sharing. I'm starting to feel a bit down because I haven't noticed much difference. Does anyone have any advice on what I should be focusing on to see improvements?

I switched to a liquid form of Riluzole because the tablets were too hard to swallow. It's made a big difference for me. If you're having trouble with the tablets, talk to your doctor about other options.
