I've been prescribed Rocaltrol 0.5mcg Capsules (Calcitriol) to manage my calcium levels due to chronic kidney issues. I've been on them for a few weeks now, and while I'm hopeful, I have some questions and concerns. I've read that some people experience side effects like weakness, nausea, and constipation. So far, I've been lucky and haven't experienced any issues, but I'm worried about the potential for high calcium levels and kidney-related problems. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Any advice on managing side effects or tips for long-term use? I'm also curious if anyone knows about the difference between Rocaltrol and other Vitamin D supplements. Are there any significant benefits or drawbacks? The doctor explained the list of side effects and reporting requirements, but I would love to hear from others who have been through this. I've been doing some research, but real-life experiences and medical advice can be so much more helpful.

I'm just curious if anyone has tried combining Rocaltrol with other supplements or vitamins? I'm thinking about adding a calcium supplement, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Has anyone had any issues combining them?

I'm glad you mentioned the FDA reporting. I had no idea you could do that. I've had some side effects with other meds and this would have been nice to know.

I'm just starting Rocaltrol and I'm a bit scared of the side effects. I've asked my doctor about the differences between this and other vitamin D supplements. I'm told the main difference is the active form, which makes it stronger. Hopefully, my experience is positive so I can monitor properly.

My doctor said Rocaltrol has calcium in it, which is why you can get constipation. The FDA should still be able to handle any side effect questions. Anyway, just make sure you drink plenty of water and, if you can, get some exercise to help keep things moving.

I've also been being prescribed this. It's completely freaking me out that I can't take this with milk or any dairy products. I'm a cheese fanatic and this is going to be really tough.

Side note: I almost went mad with the price. I had to argue with my insurance company to cover it.

Excellent post. I'll be switching from my current supplement soon. Fingers crossed for fewer side effects then!

I had to stop taking Rocaltrol because it gave me such bad headaches and weakness. It was awful. I switched to a different supplement and it's been much better. But everyone is different, so maybe you'll have a better experience! But do be careful and listen to your body.

I had a friend who was on Rocaltrol, and she started getting these weird skin reactions. Turns out it was an allergic reaction. Make sure to keep an eye out for any strange symptoms!

I've been on Rocaltrol for a couple of years now due to my chronic kidney disease. The first few months were a bit rough with some nausea and constipation, but my doctor adjusted the dosage and it's been smooth sailing since. Just make sure to stay hydrated and have regular check-ups to monitor your calcium levels.
