I have a procedure coming up and my doctor suggested using Xylocaine 2% Inj. 50ml, a lidocaine injection, to numb the area. I'm really worried about the side effects, especially those rare but serious ones like methemoglobinemia, acidosis, or even seizures. Has anyone had a similar procedure? How bad were the side effects? Was it worth it? I'm trying to be rational and know the risks but that list of side effects is scary! Can anyone relate? Can you reassure me, share a success story, or give me some tips to prepare for the worst (but hopefully not)?

Methemoglobinemia sounds terrifying. I hope you're not affected by it. Let's hope your procedure goes well. Just relax and take it easy, that help too.

Be careful and listen to your doctor. 2% is a very small percentage. It doesn't sound like much, but it does help. It will be over before you know it.

Side effects are rare, so don't worry too much. I've had lidocaine a few times for dental work and never had any issues. Just make sure to follow your doctor's instructions and you should be fine.

I had a similar procedure and the lidocaine worked like a charm. No side effects at all. I think you are going to be ok, but talk with your doctor and if you have any questions go over it with her.

I had a friend who got lidocaine and got seizures and now the doctors don't know why. It was extremely rare. But I think it's a risk worth taking if it means you can get the procedure done without pain. If you are in pain, you are miserable. It is worth the risk,

I had a bad experience with a different numbing drug but it was due to an allergy, not the drug itself. If you know you are not allergic to lidocaine, you should be-okay. Even though it sounds scary, just think about how much pain you would be in without the numbing agent. It's worth the risk!

I've had lidocaine during a minor surgery and it helped me not feel the pain. But I was scared when I read the side effects too. What I did was to ask my doctor really detailed questions. If I felt that the doctor was reassuring, I understood the risks and that made me feel comfortable. I think it's important to find a good, trustworthy doctor.

I'm not a doctor, but I think the risk of serious side effects is really low. Just make sure to report any symptoms immediately. But honestly, you can't control the side effects. All you can do is take comfort in the fact that serious complications are rare. Trust your doctor and prepare for the worst, but hope for the best.
