I've been researching ways to prevent cavities in my kid's teeth, and I came across Sodium Fluoride 1.1mg (0.5mg) Chewable Tablets. They seem to be a popular solution, but I have a few concerns. I know that fluoride helps strengthen tooth enamel and makes it more resistant to acids that cause decay, but I've read about some pretty scary side effects. Has anyone else given these to their kids? If so, what was your experience like? Did you notice any improvement in oral health? Side effects? I'd really appreciate some real-world insights before I make a decision.

I think the biggest issue is going to be remembering to give it to them every day. It's an extra step in the morning routine, and my kids are notorious for forgetting things.

I've given these to my kids for a while now, and they've been great at preventing cavities. No side effects either.

I had a horrible experience with this medication. My child had a severe allergic reaction and ended up with a bunch of nasty hives. It was terrifying. I can't believe it was such a hard side effect to miss on the leaflet. We switched to a different fluoride supplement and haven't had any issues since. Please be careful.

Not sure how I feel about giving my kids medication just to prevent cavities. Isn't that kind of overkill? If you still have fluoride in the water, doesn’t it seem a little redundant?

Fluoride is pretty essential for tooth development, especially in kids. I personally like the chewable form because it's easier to administer and control the dose than with toothpaste or drops.

My dentist recommended these to my kid. He said it's better to swallow the fluoride than to spit it out. It's a complete game changer for us.

That’s the way to go. Don’t just google stuff for medical advice

But what about the risk of dental fluorosis? I've heard that too much fluoride can be bad for teeth. Is this a risk with these tablets?

I'd be cautious with these. They're fluoride, so they're going to be good for teeth, but the side effects are serious. I think it's worth talking to your dentist before starting them.
