I was recently given 30mg Nimotop (Nimodipine) following a subarachnoid hemorrhage. I understand it helps prevent vasospasm and brain damage, but I'm quite worried about potential side effects. The urgent warning for allergic reactions and heart issues is scary. I'm trying to balance the need for this medication with the fear of severe complications. Does anyone have experience with this drug? I'm looking for insights on managing side effects and general advice for those in similar situations.

There probably aren't any foods to avoid, but it's best to keep your diet heart-healthy to support overall recovery. If you experience any cardiovascular side effects like abnormal heartbeat shortness of breath or severe dizziness, immediate action is required. Activities should be low impact. In fact, bed rest is sometimes recommended to reduce the risk of vasospasm.

The length of treatment can vary, but usually, it's for 21 days. It's a short-term preventive treatment. The first few days can be tough, but it gets easier. Make sure you take it consistently and report any concerning side effects immediately.

My partner was on Nimotop, and the most common side effect they experienced was headache. They tried taking it with food to see if that helped, and it did a bit. Also, hydration is key—make sure you're drinking plenty of water. Talk to your doctor about any side effects.

Does anyone know if there are any specific things to avoid while on Nimotop? Like certain foods or activities?

Stay strong, you're not alone in this. I was on Nimotop after my SAH, and while it was tough, it's crucial for recovery. Keep an eye out for those urgent side effects, but try not to worry too much. The benefits often outweigh the risks in cases like ours.

I think it's important to remember that while the side effects are scary, they are rare. Stay positive and focus on your recovery. You got this!

Try not to stress too much about the side effects. It's easier said than done, but staying calm will help your recovery. You're in good hands with your medical team. Take it one day at a time.

Serious question: how long does one typically stay on Nimotop. It sounds like a rough ride.
