I've been prescribed Tessalon 100mg Perles for a persistent cough, and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster. On one hand, it's incredibly effective at numbing the cough reflex and giving me some relief. On the other, the side effects listed are quite alarming. I've experienced some mild dizziness and a stuffy nose, but nothing too severe so far. Has anyone else had similar experiences? How have you dealt with the side effects, and what precautions have you taken to avoid the serious ones?

I think the risk of choking is overstated. As long as you swallow the capsules whole and follow the directions, you should be fine. I've been taking Tessalon for years with no issues.

I've never had a reaction like numbness or tingling, but I did get a weird rash. I'm really glad I didn't ignore it and sought medical attention immediately. I've actually stopped taking it and switched to a different remedy.

There's any study proving that it actually works? Or is it all placebo?

I've found that taking Tessalon with a full glass of water helps to reduce the dizziness. It might just be a placebo, but it seems to work for me.

The worst part is the drowsiness. I took it at night and woke up feeling like I'd been hit by a truck. But it did stop the coughing, so I guess that's a trade-off?

The stuffy nose is the worst. It feels like I just got over a cold, but it's a small price to pay

I had a friend who took Tessalon and ended up with some pretty serious hallucinations. It was scary stuff. I'd be really cautious with this medication—it's not something to mess around with.

I've heard that some people have trouble with it and others have no issues. It might be worth asking your doctor if there's a similar medication that doesn't come with such a long list of side effects.
