I've been prescribed Tetracaine 0.5% Ophthalmic Solution for an upcoming eye procedure, and while my doctor assured me it's safe, I can't help but feel nervous. The leaflet mentions some pretty scary side effects, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this medication. Is it as bad as it sounds, or am I overreacting? I'm trying to do some real research but it feels hard to find honest and useful information online. Have any of you used this before? How did it go? I want to know what to expect, especially if there's any way to minimize the side effects.

I just used it for removing a foreign object in my eye. The doctor never mentioned any side effects, I forgot to ask though. I would just go for it, but I don't know how I'd feel if it was you, to be honest.

I've had it before, and it really doesn't feel great. If you have a choice, I'd go for something else. But then again, I don't think I had any side effects. It was used for eye pressure measuring.

I used it for a procedure. Worked just as intended. Went in and out of the doctors office with no issues. So I don't know why you are so worried, it felt fine for me at least.

I've never had a problem with Tetracaine, but you should know what to do if you experience an allergic reaction. Report any side effects to the FDA. They take that stuff seriously. If you're worried, just be ready to be quick about it.

This is used to numb your eye so it's uncomfortable, but it should be ok. The side effects listed are rare. If you have any trouble breathing, get help. But most people should be fine. My doc uses this all the time — he says it's very common
