I've been prescribed Rowasa 4gm Kit (7 X 60ml) for ulcerative proctitis and was wondering if anyone has any tips to share about using it? It's a bit intimidating as I've never used an enema before, and the side effects list is pretty long. Can anyone share their experience with it? How do you know if it's working? How long does it take to see an effect and are there any tricks to make the administration process less uncomfortable? Do you use a heating pad or other methods to make it more comfortable? Also, what do you do about the mess? How do you clean up and how bad is the smell? Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was really nervous about using it at first, but my doctor assured me it was safe. The first time was a bit challenging, but now I'm used to it. I use a towel and some baby wipes to clean up, and I just put all the supplies on the bathroom counter so I can easily reach them. As for the smell, it's not too bad. It's an earthy smell, definitely not pleasant, but not too bad.

The 'kits' are super convenient for travel and I just toss them in my bag when I'm on the go. They make this process really easy.

I noticed some minor rectal irritation at first, but it went away after a few days. If you experience any severe side effects, like difficulty breathing or severe abdominal pain, definitely seek medical attention immediately. But for most people, the side effects are pretty mild and manageable.

I've been using Rowasa for a while and I've found that cleaning up afterwards can be a bit tricky to manage, I put a waterproof pad on the bed (for me, it's easier to do at night) and use a towel to clean up afterwards.

I've been using Rowasa for a few months now and it has been a game-changer for me. It does take some getting used to, but it's worth it. I find that using a heating pad afterwards helps a lot with any discomfort. Also, make sure to use the kit exactly as prescribed and stay hydrated.

I’ve found that using the enema at night helps because it gives me time to rest and recover during my sleep. It’s less uncomfortable than doing it during the day.
