I've been prescribed Tobramycin 40mg/ml Inj, 50ml for a serious lung infection and I'm a bit concerned about the side effects. Has anyone had experience with this antibiotic? The list of potential side effects is daunting. In your experience, how common are these side effects? And how can I best monitor for them while I'm being treated? Should I be worried about any of these side effects in particular?

My doctor monitored me closely for kidney issues since Tobramycin can affect them. Make sure your doctor is keeping an eye on your kidney function.
This medication is not something to take lightly. I had a severe infection, and Tobramycin was my last resort. I did experience some side effects, but they were manageable compared to the infection. Has anyone tried alternatives to Tobramycin, i.e., Ciprofloxacin? I’m curious if that would be less harsh? I also had concerns about the diarrhea side effect and had a hospitalization due to CDAD.
I agree with others. Tobramycin is tough but effective. Just be vigilant about the side effects and keep in touch with your healthcare provider. They're there to help!
To me, it feels like the side effects are too risky. Isn't there a less dangerous alternative?
The pain at the injection site was brutal, but I toughed it out. The infection was much worse.
Tobramycin saved my life when I had a severe pneumonia, but the injection site pain was terrible. Make sure to check in with your doctor if you experience any of the severe side effects listed. Especially if you're having trouble breathing or experience any signs of allergy.
I was on Tobramycin for a severe urinary tract infection and it was a game changer. My doctors said that side effects are rare, and I only experienced some mild nausea. Hope you get better soon!
Be very cautious with this medication. My friend had a severe allergic reaction and ended up in the ICU. If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, go to the ER immediately.
