I'm planning a trip to Southeast Asia and my doctor recommended getting the Ixiaro vaccine to protect against Japanese Encephalitis. Has anyone else gotten this vaccine? What was your experience like? Did you have any side effects? I'm a bit anxious about the potential for severe reactions, but I also want to be safe. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I got the Ixiaro vaccine last year before my trip to Thailand. I had a bit of soreness at the injection site and felt tired for a day, but that was it. No big deal overall.

I heard the Ixiaro booster is a must to have if you're traveling to more than one country in that area. If that's the case, be prepared for the extra shot, it's not that bad. It's better to be safe than sorry

I work in public health and have seen a few cases where people didn't get the booster and ended up with Japanese Encephalitis. It's a serious disease and can lead to lifelong complications or even death. Make sure you get both doses and the booster if you plan to stay in affected areas for a long time.

I got the vaccine and had no side effects at all. I think people worry too much about vaccines. Just get it and enjoy your trip!

Why is Japanese Encephalitis such a risk in Southeast Asia? I thought it was only in rural areas.
