I've been using Triple Antibiotic Ointment for minor cuts and scrapes for years, but I recently read about potential side effects. Given that this ointment contains bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin B, I'm wondering if there are better or safer alternatives available over the counter without an adverse reaction on sensitive skin. Or if I just need to be more careful with how I use this product. How does this compare to other antibiotic ointments? Any thoughts or experiences to share?

I had no idea about the allergic reaction symptoms. Will definitely be more careful with this stuff from now on.

I work in a hospital, and we see a lot of people with infections that don't respond to these antibiotics anymore. Overuse of topical antibiotics can contribute to antibiotic resistance. I usually recommend just keeping the wound clean and covered, or using something like honey or aloe vera for minor cuts and scrapes.

For folks with sensitive skin, I recommend checking out aquaphor or bacitracin zinc ointment. Both are great for minor cuts and scrapes and have fewer potential side effects and reactions. I use aquaphor for burns and it works wonders. For chronic conditions, always ask your dermatologist or a medical professional.

Be careful with this stuff. I used it on a small cut once and got a pretty bad reaction. My skin was red, swollen, and itchy for days. Went to the doctor and they said it was an allergic reaction. Turns out, I'm allergic to one of the antibiotics in it. So now I just stick to plain petroleum jelly for minor cuts.

I've had great experiences with this ointment. I've never had any side effects, but I've always followed the instructions carefully. I usually clean the wound, apply a thin layer, and cover it with a bandage. It's always healed quickly.

I had no idea it could cause such severe reactions. Good to know, and good to remind people to check with a doctor if they have doubts. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Great thread! I always assumed Triple Antibiotic Ointment was safe for everyone, but it's good to be careful and informed.
