I was recently prescribed Unithroid 0.2mg (200mcg) tablets for hypothyroidism. I've been taking them for a month now, and while I've noticed some improvements in my energy levels, I'm still experiencing some side effects like hair loss and muscle weakness. I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or if there are tips for managing these side effects. Additionally, I've read about the potential serious side effects, and it's a bit concerning. Has anyone had to deal with any of these more severe issues, and if so, how did you handle it?

I was on Unithroid for a while, and switching to a liquid form of levothyroxine worked better for me. The liquid form helped with the absorption and my TSH levels stabilized much faster. Give it a try! Having an endocrinologist saved me from some serious issues.

I started on a 200mcg dose and had a pretty rough time with weight loss even though I was eating more. If you're losing weight too fast, you might be overmedicated. My dose was reduced to 150mcg and the issues stopped. I would check to see if the side effects you're experiencing are from the levothyroxine or the underlying thyroid issue. A thyroid specialist can help with that.

I've been on Unithroid for a few years now, and I can definitely relate to the hair loss. It was really stressful at first, but my doctor assured me it was temporary. I started using a gentle shampoo and conditioner specifically for hair loss and noticed some improvement. Hang in there—I know it can be tough. The muscle weakness can be managed with some light exercise and stretching, which my doctor recommended.

I hate taking this stuff. Sometimes I feel like it makes me feel worse. I've had so many food allergies suddenly pop up, too. The downside is that it's hard to miss a dose. I usually get a headache or something else.
