My toddler was just prescribed Amox-Clav ES 600mg/5ml Susp 125ml for an ear infection. I've read about the potential side effects, but I'm still worried. I'm wondering what red flags I should watch out for and how to handle them. Is diarrhea normal? How serious is the risk of allergic reactions? I've also heard about severe skin reactions — how likely are these? Even though the doctor assured me it's common, I'd love to hear from other parents who've been through this.

My child had swelling around the eyes and mouth and a fever within a few hours of taking it. It was scary, but we got to the ER just in time. Turns out it was a rare allergic reaction. If your child exhibits any signs, like wheezing, or peeling skin, get them to the hospital.

Diarrhea is pretty common with antibiotics, but if it's really bad or contains blood, that's a red flag.

I know this is a major topic and some parents may be overwhelmed by the information. If anyone is nervous about anything, please ask your doctor! Some parents are caught off guard and don't know what to do. Sometimes the pharmacist can be a good source of information and they are also able to flag your medical record about anything that happens.

My niece had a severe reaction to this medication, including fever and chills. It was scary, and I’m glad we caught it early. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, don't hesitate to call the doctor. It's better safe than sorry.

My son had a weird diaper rash. Turns out it was from the antibiotic, I feel so lucky!!

I've had no problems with my kiddo taking this. They don't love the taste but there were no severe reactions. Fingers crossed.

My child had mild diarrhea, but we were told it's common. It got better after a few days. We also switched to a different antibiotic just to be safe. Definitely monitor closely and talk to the pediatrician

My kid had a mild rash after taking this. The doctor said it was a rare allergic reaction and switched the prescription. She also told me about C.diff which the pharmacist mentioned too. Also, blood in stools is a big no-no.

I completely agree. The pharmacist gave us a booklet with all the potential side effects, which was really helpful. We watched for signs of an allergic reaction closely. My kid didn't have much of an appetite after taking this and the pharmacist told us to mix it with food or drink juice. I also know some kids get really upset when they see the measuring cup because of the taste. We mixed it with orange juice and it worked! We all want to avoid the nasty side effects that can involve kid's skin problems or liver problems.
