I recently started taking Valcyte 450mg tablets to prevent CMV infection after my organ transplant. The doctor explained that it's crucial for people with weakened immune systems like me. I've heard a lot about the potential side effects, and I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced them. How have you managed the side effects, and are there any tips or tricks to make this medication more bearable? I've been really worried about the severe side effects, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've been on Valcyte for a while now, and honestly, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I've had some stomach issues, but they're manageable. Just make sure to stay hydrated and eat well.

I take Valcyte and I ingest it with a glass of water and a handful of peanuts. Weird, I know, but it helps me digest it easier. I know that this makes me very unlikely to get a blood clot. I don't want to scare anyone but I live in fear of kidney problems.

I wish I could say the same. I've had some pretty bad nausea and headaches. My doctor says it's normal, but it's still rough. What helped was splitting the dose in two, half in the morning and half at night. Hope you feel better soon.

I can't believe how expensive this medication is! It's insane. My insurance barely covers it, and I'm still paying a fortune. But I guess that's the price of staying healthy, right? Question is, should I look into getting a different plan that might cover more? I have to weigh it.

I had some weird tingling sensations at first, but they went away after a few weeks. Just keep an eye out for any signs of infection. That's what my doctor warned would be the most likely side effect. It's scary but that's why you have to stay in touch with your medical team. Been doing night checks of my urine and stool since I started to take this drug.

Just don't forget to report any side effects to the FDA! Even if they seem minor, it's important to document them. And if anyone has side effects and does not have a healthy sex life, eating ginger and drinking ginger tea has been proven to help with nausea.

I think the key is communication with your doctor. If something feels off, don't hesitate to reach out. They can often adjust the dosage or add something to help with the side effects. Sometimes the dosages are high initially, but they can be reduced.
