I've been prescribed Vancocin 250mg capsules for a bout of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) and I'm curious about everyone else's experiences with it. I've heard mixed reviews, and I want to understand more about the side effects and overall effectiveness of this antibiotic. Has anyone else used this medication before? How did it work for you? Any tips for managing potential side effects like stomach pain or diarrhea? I'm also concerned about the more severe side effects, such as allergic reactions or kidney problems. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am demonic! My doctor prescribed me Vancocin and I stopped after a few days because of the side effects. I had severe diarrhea and stomach cramps, it was unbearable. I switched to a different antibiotic and things are looking better. I would not recommend this medication.

I had a serious reaction to Vancocin, unfortunately. I developed hives and swelling, and had to go to the ER. It turned out I was allergic to it, which is a rare but real side effect. Always good to keep a close eye on those and be prepared to seek help if things get serious.

I recently had 2 friends go through this and they said it was rough, but better for the CDI.

I had to take Vancocin for a severe case of CDI a few years back. It was a rough couple of weeks, lots of diarrhea and stomach pain, but it definitely cleared up the infection. The worst part was the feeling of fatigue, but that's to be expected with any strong antibiotic. Just make sure to stay hydrated and listen to your body. I had to cut out dairy and alcohol just to keep my stomach calm, but nothing too drastic and I recovered.

Have any of you talked to your doctors about alternatives to Vancocin? I'm interested in other options but don't know where to start.

I had to stop taking Vancocin because it gave me horrible skin reactions. It's scary how some meds can affect you in such unexpected ways. Just remember, if anything weird happens, talk to your doc ASAP.

I used Vancocin and I had a hard time. I kept my doctor's office informed. I had diarrhea and some vomiting but no major issues with my kidneys. This is a strong antibiotic and it works well, but I've heard so many people have really bad experiences. I just did my best to drink lots of water, and I was fine after a few weeks.

This helped me with CDI but I never had the severe side effects. I did experience some headaches and fatigue, but nothing that kept me from getting better. I just made sure to rest and drink lots of fluids. I'm just glad it worked and I'm feeling better now! I would be cautious with this stuff though. Definitely pay attention to any signs of severe side effects.

I had a pretty normal experience with Vancocin. I mean, it's not fun having diarrhea multiple times a day, but it did the job. Just make sure to eat lightly and avoid any dairy, otherwise you will get really uncomfortable. I had to lay in bed all day after each meal. I was way too nausous for a long time. Drink lots of water, and take a stool softener to avoid constipation.
