Warning: Hydrocodone/Homatropine 5/1.5mg Cough Medicine Side Effects
I've been prescribed Hydrocodone/Homatropine 5/1.5mg tablets for a persistent cough, and I'm already feeling some side effects. I know it's an opioid and can be habit-forming, but I wasn't expecting to feel this dizzy and drowsy. Is this normal? I've also been having some trouble breathing. Has anyone else had these issues? Should I be worried? I've read about the serious side effects, and I don't want to end up in the hospital. Any advice on managing these side effects or knowing when to seek help?

Yeah, I had to take it for a really bad cough too. I felt drowsy and forgetful. But it did help calm the cough. Just be careful and monitor your breathing.
Honestly, I would suggest trying to get a different prescription if possible. The side effects and risks are scary, and it's not worth it for a cough. And please, do not take this for fun. Some people do that and get addicted. It’s not worth it.
I've actually been prescribed this before, and I agree with your concerns. You should definitely be cautious with this medication, especially with the breathing issues. I had some minor side effects, like dizziness and drowsiness, but nothing too severe. But everyone's body reacts differently to medications, so it's important to stay vigilant and monitor your symptoms closely. If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, contact your doctor right away. Try to focus on staying hydrated and get enough rest to help with some of the side effects. Also, consider taking this medication in the evening, that way you're not as tired during the day.
The opioid part of this is super important. I have a friend that got addicted to oxycodone after his wisdom teeth came out. He’s messed up his life over it. I’m not sure if this is the same thing but if you end up at the doctor with this, you probably have some options.
I took this stuff once and had such a dry mouth. I couldn’t even swallow my water. My lips were chapped and everything. I thought i was dehydrated but it turned out it was the medicine.
I had a friend that took this and got really bad constipation. Like, couldn't go to the bathroom for days bad. It was horrible. She ended up taking stool softeners. I don't know how you can develop a habit from this though unless you use it wrong. I'm sure you’ll be ok, but keep telling stories like that so I'll stay away from this
I took this for a bad cough and it worked but felt pretty awful afterwards. If it helps, don’t stay at the doctor’s office and take your time. They should let you know the exact way to use the medication too. I’m not sure if that helps though.
Dude, you should know that you can't drink alcohol while taking this medication. I had a friend who did and he was in the ER the next day. He was so confused. He didn't know what was happening. He said the doctor was yelling at him like it was his fault. He was scared after that. If you're taking this stuff, If you do drink, go easy and make sure to drink water in between drinks.
I took this for a bad cough last winter and it helped but I felt so out of it. I kept falling asleep while watching TV. I remember feeling tired all the time, too. As long as you're not having trouble breathing, I think you'll be fine. But definitely keep an eye on that, and if it gets worse, go to the doctor.
Be really careful with this stuff. I had a friend who took it for a cough and ended up in the hospital with breathing problems. He thought he was just feeling tired but it got really bad, and he had to be intubated. It's not worth risking your life over a cough. If you're feeling really bad, go to the ER.
