I started using Retin-A Micro 0.1% Gel about a month ago on the advice of my dermatologist. I was hopeful that it would help clear up my acne and reduce some fine lines. The application process was straightforward—just a pea-sized amount on my face once a day before bed. However, the side effects were more intense than I expected. I experienced a lot of burning and stinging, especially in the first two weeks. My skin was dry, red, and flaky, which made it difficult to go out in public sometimes. I was also surprised by how sensitive my skin became to sunlight; even a short walk outside left me feeling like my face was on fire. I had to wear sunscreen constantly and avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. I stuck with it because my dermatologist assured me that these side effects are common and should subside, but it was tough to deal with.

My skin was so sensitive that I couldn't even use my usual face wash. I had to switch to a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser. Also, I found that applying a thin layer of Vaseline over the Retin-A at night helped a lot with the dryness.

Did your dermatologist give you any tips to manage the side effects? I'm about to start using this and I'm nervous about the burning.

I think it's important to note that everyone's experience is different. Some people might not have any side effects at all, while others might have it really bad. Just be prepared and listen to your doctor.

The first few weeks were brutal for me too. I had to use a heavy moisturizer and avoid any other harsh products. But after a month, my skin started to improve a lot. Just stick with it and listen to your doctor. Also, make sure to moisturize regularly and avoid anything that can irritate your skin further.

I had a similar experience. It got worse before it got better, but it did get better.

Has anyone tried mixing Retin-A with other products like aha/bha?
