I was prescribed Lomotil Liquid for a bout of severe diarrhea and it really helped with the symptoms. However, I started experiencing some alarming side effects and now I'm worried. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm particularly concerned about the severe side effects listed, like trouble breathing or hallucinations. How common are these? Should I be worried about long-term effects? I already called my doctor, but I want to hear from others who have been through this. Also, how does the atropine in Lomotil affect its misuse prevention? Seems like a serious topic that needs more discussion.

Feeling dizzy and sleepy is normal with this med. Just make sure to rest and stay hydrated. Not worth worrying until you start seeing things or having trouble breathing.

If you're really worried, ask your doctor about alternatives. There are other meds that can help with diarrhea without all the scary side effects.

I had some really bad constipation after taking Lomotil. Be careful and monitor your bowel movements closely. Doc said it's not common, but it can happen.

I had hallucinations after taking Lomotil. It was terrifying. I called my doctor immediately and they said it was a rare but serious side effect. I never took it again.

I took Lomotil once and it worked great, but I didn't have any side effects. Hopefully, it's just a bad batch or something.

I works in the pharmaceutical industry and I can say that it is not safe to stop using this medication solely on the basis of side effects experienced by a few people. We do not have data of such nature in our documentation.
