Calcium Gluconate 10% Inj, 50ml is a medication given by injection into a vein to quickly raise calcium levels in the blood. It's commonly used in medical emergencies such as very high potassium levels or magnesium overdose, often because it has a acute effect. Given its use in emergencies, it's crucial to understand the potential risks and side effects. I've seen this drug used in the ER many times, but I'm curious about the long-term effects and any rare complications that might not be immediately apparent. Has anyone had extensive experience with this medication, either personally or professionally?

But why is it always the constipation? I feel like every drug has that as a side effect.

The allergy symptoms mentioned really worry me. Has anyone ever had to deal with a severe allergic reaction to this drug?

Never had any issues with it, but I've only used it a few times. Always good to be aware of the risks though.

I've seen this used a few times in the ER for hyperkalemia. It works fast, but the risk of tissue necrosis if it extravasates is real. Always ensure proper IV placement!

I had a patient with chronic constipation after receiving multiple doses. Make sure to monitor for those additional side effects too.

Good thread. Always good to be reminded of the potential side effects and the importance of monitoring during infusion. Thanks for sharing!

I remember a case where the patient developed bone pain after multiple doses. It was tough to manage, but we got through it with careful monitoring and adjustments.

This is why I love working in a hospital with a good pharmacy team. They always double-check the dosage and infusion rates to prevent adverse reactions. Safety first, right?
