I've been prescribed Penicillin G 20mu Inj, 1 Vial for a bacterial infection. The doctor mentioned it's given as an injection, either into a vein (IV) or a muscle (IM). I've read that it can have some serious side effects. Has anyone else taken this? What was your experience? Are some side effects more common than others?

I had diarrhea after my round of antibiotics. They told me that CDAD is a risk, so I was extra careful.

You should definitely be aware of the signs of an allergic reaction. I’ve had a friend who had a severe reaction, and it was scary. Symptoms included rash, hives, wheezing, and swelling. He ended up in the ER immediately. That's why I always carry an EpiPen now.

Just a heads up, if you experience any of the side effects mentioned, like chest pain or rapid heartbeat, don’t wait it out. Go to the hospital!

I had to take Penicillin G 20mu Inj a few years ago, and it was pretty rough. I experienced extreme dizziness and had to sit down to stop myself from fainting.

I can't imagine how anyone would be able to cope with the muscle injection pain. I've had IVs and they are much better.

I’ve had a few injections. The worst part was the site of the injection was very irritated. Definitely worth mentioning to your doctor if you have any problems.

I’ve heard that nerve damage can occur if the injection is given near a nerve. If you feel numbness or tingling, you should definitely let your doctor know right away.

Be on the lookout for any signs of high potassium levels, too. Abnormal heartbeat and confusion are serious and you need to seek help right away.

I had a muscle injection with Penicillin G and I felt a sharp pain in my arm for a few days. Not the worst experience ever, but definitely not pleasant. I'd recommend eating before the shot if you can manage it, I think it helped me.
