Hey everyone, I'm about to start a course of Vancomycin Hcl 1.75gm Inj to treat a serious bacterial infection. The doctor said it's a strong antibiotic given through an IV and that it works by stopping bacteria from building their cell walls. I'm a bit nervous about the potential side effects. Has anyone had experience with this drug? What should I watch out for? Any advice on managing side effects or what to do if things go wrong?

Vancomycin is notorious for its potential to cause kidney problems and skin reactions. If you start experiencing symptoms like blood in the urine, fever, or any kind of skin rash, get to a doctor ASAP. My friend had a really bad reaction to it and ended up in the hospital for a week.

I've been on this for a week now and it is so worth it for the relief it's given me. I did get some side effects like stomach pain and itching but it was just for a couple of days.

If the infusion site starts to hurt, burn, or swell, tell your nurse right away. I had a nurse who mentioned that this can cause tissue damage if it leaks out.

Remember, some side effects are rare but severe. If you experience anything that sounds like a severe allergic reaction, do not wait — go to the ER.
