I'm scheduled for a minor procedure soon and my doctor mentioned using Brevital Sodium (Methohexital) for anesthesia. I've read about the fast-acting nature and quick recovery, but I'm curious about real-life experiences. Has anyone here had Brevital Sodium and if so what has been your recovery like? Did you experience any of the side effects mentioned, such as dizziness, anxiety, or hiccups? I'm concerned about the risk of allergic reactions and seizures. How common are these really? And for those who experienced tissue damage from the injection, what did that look like and how was it treated? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I had a friend who had a nasty reaction to Brevital. She broke out in hives and had trouble breathing. They had to stop the procedure and switch to a different anesthetic. It was scary, but thankfully she recovered fine. Just be prepared for the worst, even if it's unlikely.

I had Brevital for a short surgery and it worked like a charm. I was out and woke up quickly with no major issues. I did have a bit of delayed hiccups for a few hours after, but nothing that required medical attention. I felt like my recovery was quite smooth.

I had Brevital and woke up feeling great. No side effects at all. I think people worry too much about these things.

Brevital is very fast acting and wears off quickly which is why it's great for short procedures. Other anesthetics might take longer to kick in or have a longer recovery time.

Can someone explain why they chose Brevital over other anesthetics? I'm just curious about the decision-making process on part of the anesthesiologist.

I've had Brevital several times for various procedures. Always a smooth experience. But if you have a history of seizures, definitely discuss this with your doctor.
