I've recently been prescribed Lactulose 10gm/15ml Oral/rectal Sol to manage my Hepatic Encephalopathy and I wanted to see if anyone else has experience with it. How effective has it been for you? What are the notable side effects that you might not find on the label? How does it impact your daily life and routine? So far, I've noticed some immediate side effects but I am hopeful that it will get better. Any advice would be appreciated.

My doc said it's all about finding the right balance. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor if the side effects are too much. I had to switch to a different formula to get the diarrhea under control.
My doctor said to be aware of signs of dehydration. I never connected that with Lactulose, but I guess it makes sense. I've been drinking more water and it's helped a lot.
If you haven't already, look up the impact of ammonia build up. The reduction in that stuff is the real magic of Lactulose.
Lactulose has been a lifesaver for me. It took a while to get used to the side effects, but the improvement in my cognitive function has been huge. The gas and burping were annoying at first, but I found that taking it with food helped a lot. I also recommend keeping some activated charcoal on hand for when the side effects get really bad.
I had to deal with severe diarrhea initially, but my doctor adjusted the dose and it's manageable now. Keep track of your bowel movements and hydration; it makes a big difference.
