I've been prescribed Augmentin 250mg/5ml Susp 150ml for my child's ear infection, and I'm a bit worried about the possible side effects. The leaflet lists a whole bunch of serious ones, like allergic reactions and liver problems. Has anyone else given this to their kids? Did you experience any issues? I'm particularly concerned about the diarrhea side effect, as I've heard horror stories about C. diff. I just want to make sure I'm not overreacting. Augmentin can be rough on the tummy, but it's generally effective. My doc told me to give it with food, which helped a lot. As for the serious side effects, they're rare, but definitely keep an eye out. If you notice anything weird, call your doctor right away.
I gave this to my daughter last year, and she had some diarrhea, but nothing too bad. I just made sure she was drinking lots of fluids and kept an eye on it. Never had any of the serious side effects listed.
This stuff is brutal on the gut. My kid had some really bad diarrhea, and it took a while to get it under control. We ended up having to switch antibiotics, but it was worth it to get rid of the infection.
