I've been using Zovirax 5% Cream for the past few weeks to treat recurring cold sores, and while it seems to be helping, I've noticed some side effects that have me a bit concerned. The packaging says it helps heal faster and reduces pain and itching. According to the description, Zovirax is an antiviral medicine used to treat cold sores (herpes labialis) on the face and lips. It works by stopping the cold sore virus from growing and spreading. But I've experienced some burning and stinging sensations, and my lips have become quite dry and flaky. I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar issues or if there are any tips to manage these side effects better? I'm also curious about the reporting process for side effects; is it worth reaching out to the FDA, or should I just talk to my doctor? There are some severe allergic reactions listed as 'urgent' side effects, which has me even more worried.

I had a severe allergic reaction to Zovirax a few years back. It was terrifying—rash, hives, and trouble breathing. I had to go to the ER immediately. If you experience anything like that, don't hesitate to seek medical help right away. You can report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-332-1088 or visit their website at https://www.fda.gov/medwatch. Your doctor is also a valuable resource for medical advice about side effects.

If the burning and stinging are too much, try applying a thin layer and see if that helps. Also, make sure to apply it at the first sign of a cold sore. The earlier you start, the better it works.

I've been using Zovirax for years, and while I do get some dryness, I find that using a good lip balm helps a lot. Apply it before bed to keep your lips moisturized overnight. Just be sure to avoid vasodilation from lip balm with certain ingredients, as this can actually worsen symptoms.

I never knew you could report side effects to the FDA! I've just been talking to my doctor, but this is good to know. Thanks for sharing!
