I've been prescribed Allopurinol 200mg Tablets to manage my gout and prevent kidney stones. The doctor said it helps by reducing uric acid levels in the body, but the side effects list is pretty scary. Has anyone had any severe side effects? Good experiences? I want to hear from you all before I decide whether to start this medication. Let me know how it's worked for you and what you think about it.

I got really bad diarrhea when I started taking it, but it went away after a few days. It’s worth sticking out at least a week to see if your body adjusts.

I got this reaction, but I also have a history of allergies. In my case, it was worth the risk. I only experience a slight headache when I first wake up, but it goes away after I take it.

Upset stomach for sure. I started with a lower dose and worked my way up. That helped a lot. I also take it with food which helps to combat the nausea.

I've been on Allopurinol for a few years now, and it's been a lifesaver for my gout. No severe side effects, just occasional drowsiness but that goes away in a few hours. Definitely worth it for the relief it brings.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome is rare but it’s something to be aware of. If you experience a rash, blisters, or swelling of the eyes, mouth, or throat, seek medical attention right away. I had a friend who got a rash, but thankfully it was just a mild allergic reaction.

I got so many blood tests before starting, but I think it was worth it. I haven't had any kidney stones in 2 years. I definitely recommend getting thorough blood work done before starting. I would also recommend keeping a log of any symptoms just in case.

I had a really bad reaction to it. Developed a rash and my throat felt tight. I was really scared, and thankfully my doctor took me off it immediately. I’m now on a different drug.

I heard it can cause Stevens-Johnson syndrome. That sounds terrifying. How likely is that to happen?

I was really nervous about the side effects, but my doctor assured me that most people just get mild symptoms like drowsiness or stomach issues. I think you should try it. Just be cautious and stay in close contact with your doctor.

Allopurinol is great for reducing uric acid levels, but you need to monitor your liver and kidney function regularly. My doctor warned me about the severe side effects, but I haven't experienced any. It's important to stay hydrated and keep an eye out for any unusual symptoms.
