I've been taking Ferrous Sulfate Elixir for a few weeks now to tackle my iron deficiency anemia, and while it's helpful, I'm experiencing some unpleasant side effects. Specifically, I've got severe constipation and an upset stomach. I've tried increasing my fiber intake and drinking more water, but nothing seems to help. Has anyone else had similar issues? If so, what did you do to manage them? I'm really struggling here and would appreciate any advice or tips you have to share. Thanks in advance!

Be careful with iron supplements, they can be rough on your system. I switched to a different form of iron and it was much easier on my stomach. I recommend talking to your doctor though, that's where I learned about other options. They may have some other suggestions as well.

I had no idea iron could cause constipation like that, thanks for the heads up!

I think you need to give it more time. If you don't see any improvement after a few more weeks, then talk to your doctor. But for now, try taking it with food and plenty of water. It should help with the side effects.

Oh no, that sounds miserable. I think you should stop taking it and talk to your doctor. There might be a different supplement that will work better for you. Also, you might consider taking a vitamin C supplement to help with absorption in the future.

Yep, constipation is a bummer. Maybe try some stool softeners over the counter.

I took it for a while and had no issues. But I took a different brand, so maybe that makes a difference.

I had the exact same issue. Drinking prune juice helped me a lot. Also, talk to your doctor about adjusting your dosage. It might help.

I had to stop taking it because of the black stools. It freaked me out, and my doctor said it's normal but I decided it wasn’t for me. Everyone is different though.

I found that taking it with food helped me a lot. The upset stomach should go away if you do that, and the constipation can be managed with more fiber. Also, don't take it with dairy products, as they can interfere with absorption.

I had the same problems. I ended up switching to a different iron supplement that was easier on my system. If you're struggling, it might be worth talking to your doctor and suggesting some other options.
