I've been on Atazanavir 300mg for a few months now to manage my HIV, and it's been great in terms of managing the viral load, but I've been experiencing some side effects that I'm not sure are normal. Just looking for some community input before I talk to my doctor again. I've had some stomach issues, but also some weird numbness in my hands. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I haven't heard of anyone else experiencing numbness, but it's something to take seriously. My doctor warned me about the side effects of Atazanavir, and it’s scary. Stick to your doctor’s guidance, but don’t wait too long to act if it feels wrong.

Numbness in hands? That’s not something to mess with. I'd get that checked out right away. But yeah, Atazanavir can be rough on the stomach. I had it for a while and it was a nightmare, so I switched. I felt real sick, but my viral load was getting lower and lower. It was the least of my evils.

Atazanavir is a powerhouse but it’s definitely got some downsides. Just remember, it's all about managing the symptoms while keeping the virus under control. I've had issues with weird kidney problems, nothing serious, but it's a good reminder to stay on top of things.

You need to be super careful with this stuff. I had a friend who ended up in the hospital because of some severe skin reaction. It was scary as hell. Yeah, talk to your doctor about the numbness, it might be something easily fixed, but don't wait around. I'd seriously consider speaking to your doctor about switching medication if you feel like the pros don't outweigh the cons.

I don’t know, maybe you’re just experiencing a rare side effect. I feel you though, it’s all about weight management and taking steps to avoid it.

I switched to Atazanavir from another med because of fewer side effects, but I had a bad reaction at first. It took my body some time to adjust, so I wasn't too worried. The worst thing I had was insomnia, lost a few nights of sleep. I'd recommend keeping a side effect journal to keep track of how you're feeling and any changes, then your doctor has a more comprehensive view of what’s happening. It also helped me understand what was directly related to Atazanavir.

I checked the label and it seems like most of these side effects are mild, so you should be okay. I'd probably go ahead and schedule an appointment, but I think you'll be fine. Just don’t stress out too much.
