I've been prescribed Azithromycin 500mg Tablets for a respiratory infection. Has anyone else taken this medication? I want to know about the effectiveness and any side effects you might have experienced. I understand it's important to take the full course, but I'm wondering how long it typically takes to start feeling better. Also, are the side effects as bad as they sound? I'd appreciate any insights or tips on managing them if they occur. For example, I've heard diarrhea is common, but is it manageable with over-the-counter remedies?

Aren't antibiotics supposed to help with infections? Why is diarrhea a problem?

This is pretty serious stuff. Definitely call your doctor if you start feeling weird. It's not worth the risk to wait it out.

Make sure to not take antibiotics with dairy! It can mess with the effectiveness of the treatment.

Be aware of the severe side effects. I had a friend who experienced a rash and swelling. They ended up in the ER.

I got diarrhea a bit, took some Imodium and it passed after a day.

I took Azithromycin for a skin infection and it was super effective. I felt better within a few days, but I did experience some stomach upset. It was manageable, though. Just make sure to take it with food and stay hydrated.

My doctor told me that if I miss a dose, I should take it as soon as I remember, unless it's almost time for the next dose. Then just skip the missed dose. Never double up.

Diarrhea can be a side effect of antibiotics because they can disrupt the natural balance of good and bad bacteria in your gut. It's usually nothing serious and can be managed with over-the-counter remedies like Imodium. However, if it's severe or bloody, you'll need to seek medical attention because it could be a sign of C. diff-associated diarrhea, which is a serious condition.

Definitely finish the course even if you feel better. Bacteria can come back if you don't complete the treatment. I had to learn this the hard way.

I've taken this a few times with no side effects. Just make sure to store them properly and take them as prescribed.
