So I was recently prescribed Benicar HCT 40/25 mg tablets to a mixture of olmesartan and hydrochlorothiazide for high blood pressure. The doctor assured me that the drug helps in the relaxation of blood vessels and aiding in getting rid of extra salt and water, and it sounds great. However, the long list of serious side effects has got me a bit concerned. It seems like the trade-off for better blood pressure could be pretty risky. I'd love to hear from anyone who has taken this medication - what was your experience like? How did you handle the possible side effects? Do you feel better overall with the trade-off? Anyone have any tips to make the medication go down easier? Feel free to share your thoughts or concerns, and let's have a discussion about this!

I had a similar experience as someone above. I tried Benicar HCT and got easily exhausted. Definitely talk to your doctor and see if another medication would suit your needs as well as this one. It is hard to decide now which one to go to.

I haven’t heard of the eye problems mentioned in the OP, but I’m curious how many people experienced this and didn't know they had to report it. I'm also wondering what kind of doctors prescribe these meds. Have anyone experienced these problems?

I was on it for a month, and it didn’t sit well with me. I had constant stomach upset and some serious dizziness. My doctor switched me to something else, and I feel much better now. Definitely talk to your doctor if you experience anything weird. I should’ve known my body didn’t agree because I was drinking so much water too!

Do any of you know if this med causes weight loss or is it just the combination of Benicar HCT and the increase in physical activity.

I got this med a few weeks ago so I’ve been very careful about side effects. I’m actually surprised no one has mentioned something about swelling. It's come up a lot on forums for me.
