I've been prescribed Cholestyramine 4gm Light Powder Packets (60s) to help manage my high cholesterol levels. I'm curious to hear from others who have taken this medication. How has it worked for you? What side effects have you experienced, and how have you managed them? I've read that constipation is common, so any tips on keeping things... moving... would be greatly appreciated! Also, I've heard that it can help with itching from liver issues. I don't have this problem, but it's interesting to know about the added benefit. Let's share our experiences and advice here.

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about the taste. It's horrible. I mix it with orange juice to make it bearable.

Definitely see if your doctor will let you take it at bedtime, it's easier to manage than morning. And don't forget to take your vitamin D separately. I found that out the hard way.

Y'all are talking about constipation like it's no big deal. I had to rush to the ER because of severe stomach pain. Turns out it was a bowel obstruction. Scariest experience of my life. Be careful with this stuff, it's not a joke.

I set a daily alarm on my phone. It's ridiculous, but it works.

I haven't had any major issues with constipation, but I did experience some stomach discomfort initially. It subsided after a few weeks. I've also heard that taking it with a full glass of water can help with that. Ease into adding it to the diet, and maybe take it with food or after food. I've also heard that some people take it once a day, but I take it twice a day and have had better results.

I take it because of my liver problems, and it was a godsend. I haven't had itchy skin in months. That was a huge relief.

Be careful with Cholestyramine and other medications. I had to stop taking my multivitamin at the same time because it can interfere with absorption. Make sure to take your other meds at least 4 hours before or after taking Cholestyramine. Also, some people mix it with water or applesauce, but I find it works best for me with juice. It makes it taste better.
