I recently started taking Cholestyramine Powder to help lower my 'bad' cholesterol (LDL) levels. It's a bit tricky to get used to, as you have to mix it with water or other liquids and drink it. It works in your intestines to bind to bile acids, which helps your body remove more cholesterol. I've also heard it can help relieve itching caused by certain liver conditions. I've experienced some side effects, like constipation, which is a common issue with this medication. Drinking more liquids and adding fiber to my diet has helped alleviate this symptom. However, I'm concerned about the more serious side effects mentioned, like severe constipation or stomach pain, which could indicate a severe bowel problem. I've also read that it can cause unexplained bruising or bleeding. Does anyone else have experience with this medication? Any tips on managing the side effects?

I was skeptical about this medication at first, but it's definitely helped lower my cholesterol. I just wish the taste wasn't so bad. I've started mixing it with apple sauce and it actually makes drinking it more bearable. Who else thinks they should flavor it or sell it in a different form?

Just started taking this and I'm already feeling the constipation. I'm going to try increasing my fiber intake and see if that helps. Fingers crossed!

Drinking it with a lot of water has been helping me deal with the constipation I was experiencing. I've also started eating more high-fiber foods. Also I hope the FDA fixes the website , it's hard to report side effects.

So, do you have to take this forever, or do you stop it once cholesterol is under control? Also if your cholesterol is high to begin with, how soon do you notice an improvement?

I've been on Cholestyramine for a few months now and it's been a lifesaver for my cholesterol levels. I mix it with orange juice to mask the taste. It's not the most pleasant, but it's worth it. I haven't experienced any major side effects, just a bit of constipation, which I manage with a stool softener.

I think this medication is worth it for the benefits, but it's important to be aware of the potential side effects. I've had some bad experiences with other medications, so I'm glad this one works so far. Unfortunately I feel like I'm constantly drinking more water than I would like. But it works, so it's worth it in the end.
