I recently started taking Colestid 1g tablets to help lower my cholesterol. The doctor explained that it works by binding to bile acids in the intestines, reducing the body's ability to reabsorb them and thereby encouraging the liver to produce more cholesterol to make new bile acids. This results in a reduction in 'bad' cholesterol (LDL). However, I've heard some horror stories about the side effects, from minor gastrointestinal symptoms like constipation and stomach pain to more serious issues like difficulty swallowing and allergic reactions. Has anyone else had experience with this drug? How did you cope with the side effects? Are there any tips or tricks to make it more bearable? I'm really hoping it's not as bad as it sounds!

I’ve noticed that some people mix it with applesauce or yogurt to make it go down easier. Who knew? It’s like a weird salad but, hey, it works.

I didn't experience any major side effects, just some minor bloating. I think it's worth a shot if your doctor recommends it. Everyone's body reacts differently.

I’ve been on it for a few weeks and I haven’t had any side effects so far. Maybe I’m lucky? How long did it take you guys to see results in your cholesterol levels?

I've been taking it for over a year now and the side effects have actually lessened over time. Maybe my body got used to it. It can be a hassle but if it helps your cholesterol levels, it might be worth it.

I've heard some people mix it with water instead of just swallowing the tablets—supposedly it helps with the cramps, but I haven’t tried it myself.

I got crazy hives and had to go to the ER. Not worth the risk for me, but I guess everyone is different. Be careful and watch for signs of allergic reaction
