I was prescribed Colestipol Hcl 5gm Granules 500gm to manage high cholesterol levels. It's known to bind to bile acids in the gut, helping the body remove more cholesterol. This can significantly lower the risk of heart disease. However, I've encountered some side effects and want to hear from others who have used it. What has your experience been like? Were the side effects manageable, or did you need to switch medications? I'd particularly be interested in hearing about the more serious side effects like difficulty swallowing or unexplained bruising, any advice on how to deal with this would be great. I've been taking it for a few weeks and have noticed some constipation and occasional stomach pain. I'm debating on whether to continue with it and am considering oddly waiting to see if it truly lowers my cholesterol as promised. Also, I'm not sure if it's just me but I feel like the medication is a bit overpriced, at least here in the US. Anyone else notice that? Let's talk about Colestipol Hcl 5gm Granules 500gm; the good, the bad, and everything in between.

I've been worried about the serious side effects but I was reassured they are rare. I just got my blood work and I'm seeing some improvements in my cholesterol levels. I think I'm going to stick with it for now. Maybe we could get a group together to track our progress?

I am just not sure about being on this for the rest of my life. I get that I need to lower my cholesterol but the side effects are rough. Is there a way to get off of it once I have my cholesterol levels where they need to be?

The stomach cramps were pretty bad for me at first, but I started taking it with food and it helped a lot. I don't know if it's a good idea to eat a lot of fiber to help with the constipation. Colestipol can bind up other nutrients we need and that can be dangerous in other ways. Doesn't this stuff mess up your ability to absorb vitamins too? I've been taking a multivitamin just in case.

Has anyone reported these side effects to the FDA? I’ve been considering it but I’m not sure if it’s worth the hassle.
