Famciclovir 125mg Tablets: My Experience and What I Wish I'd Known About Side Effects
I was prescribed Famciclovir 125mg tablets for a shingles outbreak, and while it did help, I experienced some side effects that I wasn't prepared for. The pharmacist gave me the basics, but I wish I'd known more about the possible reactions. I've seen some mentions of side effects online, but I wanted to start a thread to share my experience and learn from others. If you've taken Famciclovir, what was your experience like? Did you have any unusual side effects? How did you manage them? I'm particularly interested in hearing about any ways to mitigate the digestive issues and headaches I encountered.

I've taken Famciclovir for cold sores, and the headaches were brutal. Tylenol helped a bit, but I mostly just suffered through it. Fingers crossed that future breakouts are less frequent
I had a really bad reaction to Famciclovir. I broke out in hives and had trouble breathing. Went to the ER and they said it was an allergic reaction. Thankfully, I'm okay now, but I won't be taking that stuff again. Definitely worth mentioning these things to your doctor ASAP if they happen.
I didn't know about the allergic reaction symptoms, that's scary. I guess I should pay more attention to the pamphlet that comes with the prescription. I'll be more careful next time I pick up a new script
I didn't have any side effects, but I did notice that the medication made me a bit drowsy. I took it at night and it helped with the cold sores, but I was out like a light. Maybe it was just me, but if you're taking it, be careful driving or operating heavy machinery the next day. I also found that taking it with food helped with any stomach issues, if you're feeling queasy.
I thought Famciclovir was the only option but turns out there are other antivirals out there! I wish I had done more research before getting the prescription. If I ever get shingles again, I'll know to ask for other options.
I had to switch to Acyclovir because of the headaches. I hope the Famciclovir works well for you all, but if it doesn't, talk to your doc. There's always something else to try.
I had diarrhea the first few days, but it went away. I think staying hydrated helped a lot. Eat lots of fibre to keep things moving. I also had some muscle aches, but they weren't too bad. Doc said it was normal but to keep an eye on it.
