I was recently prescribed Foscavir (foscarnet) for a severe CMV infection and I'm really hoping to hear about others' experiences. The side effects seem scary, and I'm not sure what to expect. I'm particularly worried about the fluid and electrolyte issues and kidney problems mentioned in the warning. I'm currently experiencing some dizziness and muscle weakness, but I'm not sure if it's related to the medication. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is anyone else nervous about the potential for serious side effects? How can we manage these? Are there any tips or precautions people can share? Let's discuss what we've gone through and support each other!

This medication seems intense, but my doctor told me it's one of the most effective treatments for CMV. Just be sure to keep your doctor in the loop about any side effects you experience. I had some worrying symptoms but now I'm doing better

I've been dealing with seizures. They've been terrifying and I'm not sure what to do. I'll be in touch with my doctor soon

Hives, rash, and chest tightness. Not fun. Definitely a trip to the ER for me. But I am on the mend

My sister had a severe reaction to Foscavir, ended up with some serious kidney issues. Definitely keep an eye out for any changes in your urination and swelling. Also, be aware of any fever or chills, as they can indicate an infection due to low white blood cell counts

Depression is no joke, it's rough. I needed to up my dose of anti-depressants to cope. Take it from me. Don't hesitate to get help

Curious if anyone has dealt with genital irritation. I tried everything. I was lucky I got better on my own

Anyone else experiencing shortness of breath? I've been on this for a week and it's been brutal. My doctor reassured me that it's not unusual, but I can't help but worry about myocarditis. I also keep a journal of my symptoms to keep track of any irregular heartbeat. Also, drink plenty of water and try to stay calm and hydrated

This stuff is nasty. I had a really bad reaction at the injection site—redness, swelling, the works. My nurse had to adjust the IV a couple of times. But honestly, I'd rather deal with that than the alternative. Just keep a close eye on things and don't hesitate to call your doctor if something feels off.

I've been on Foscavir for a few weeks now and I'm experiencing some burning sensations and numbness. It's definitely not pleasant, but my doctor said it's not uncommon. I also felt really confused and weak at one point, which was scary. I had to get my electrolytes checked immediately. Make sure you stay hydrated and monitor your symptoms closely. It's better to be safe and speak with your medical team

I could barely move my legs due to muscle stiffness and weakness. I had to take it slow for a while, but it eventually subsided. Just make sure to communicate openly with your healthcare team about any issues you're facing
