I've been prescribed Guaifen & DM 100mg-10mg/5ml Syrup for my persistent cough and chest congestion. It's been helping to thin out the mucus, making it easier to cough up, and the dextromethorphan has calmed my cough reflex. However, I'm a bit worried about the potential side effects. The urgent ones listed are scary, and I'm not sure what to do if I notice any mild side effects that bother me. Have any of you had any bad experiences with this medication? I'm also curious about how to store this syrup properly since I don't want it to spoil.

This post is a reminder to always read the side effect list. It’s just plain scary how some people react. Thanks for the reminder!

Make sure to shake the bottle well before each use. I store mine in a cool, dry place like the medicine cabinet to avoid spoilage. It’s definitely helped me recover faster, without any issues. When I had some chest congestion last year, I asked my pharmacist to suggest something similar to this. I had no idea it could cause an allergic reaction but thanks to your post I am more cautious.

Drowsiness can happen sometimes, especially if you take more than the prescribed dose. Stick to the recommended amount and you should be fine.

I took this once and felt a bit drowsy. Is that a common side effect? It’s not on the list, but I felt so exhausted.

Just remember, if you experience any rare signs of an allergic reaction, like rash, hives, or trouble breathing, seek medical attention immediately. It’s always better to be safe.

I've been on this for a week and it's been a lifesaver. No side effects so far, but I've been careful to take it as prescribed.

I don’t think this medicine is for everyone. Some people have such allergic reactions that it’s scary.

Really helpful thread, I didn’t know any of this. I’m storing my medicine in the fridge just in case. Good to know about all the side effects too.
