I just had my wisdom teeth pulled and the dentist used Xylocaine-Mpf 2% Inj, 5ml for the anesthesia. I've read about the potential side effects, but I'm still nervous. Has anyone else had this and experienced any of the more serious side effects like methemoglobinemia or acidosis? I'm trying to stay calm, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything important. Also, what should I expect in the next few days as I recover? The dentist said some numbness and minor burning would be normal, but I just don't know what to look for.

I've had it for a root canal. I only experienced some light-headedness, but then again, I usually get that with any numbing medication. Just take it easy for the next 24 hours. I remember having some trouble swallowing and slurred speech right after my procedure, but it was temporary.

I experienced some pretty bad chest pains after getting Lidocaine once. The doctor said it was because of my blood pressure. I guess just pay attention to how you normally react to anesthesia. It might be worth letting your doctor know about any prior reactions you've had.

All good advice, everyone. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I never thought something like getting my wisdom teeth out would be so stressful, but it's nice to hear that some people have gone through the same thing and came out fine

Seriously, everyone's different with these drugs. For all I know, maybe your dentist was just trying to be cautious. It's also worth noting the dosage—5ml hardly seems like much, but I guess it might be different for different conditions? I've never heard of Xylocaine-Mpf before. That said, as long as you stay on top of it, I don't see why you should worry!

Be aware of any bluish discoloration on your lips or skin, that's a sign of methemoglobinemia. It's rare, but it's worth keeping an eye out for just in case. Also, if you feel unusually dizzy or have intense headaches, don't hesitate to call your doctor. With acidosis, pay attention to your breathing; if it's rapid or irregular, that's something to watch. Generally, you should just feel sleepy and a bit disoriented. But with serious side effects, you'll definitely know something's wrong.

I had Xylocaine-Mpf last year for a similar procedure, and honestly, I didn't feel anything beyond minor numbness. It's common to feel a bit groggy right after, but that should wear off quickly.

You're going to feel some numbness and tingling for a while. Just make sure you don't bite the inside of your mouth or chew on the inside of your cheeks while it's still numb.

My mom recently had spinal injections lidocaine for some back pain. She didn't have any issues, but she did mention feeling a bit off for a few days. She also noticed some changes in vision, but her doctor said that was normal.
