I have a 5-year-old who has been prescribed Tussi-Pres Pediatric Liquid to help with a nasty cough and stuffy nose. I'm wondering if anyone else has used this medication and what their experiences were like. Specifically, I'm curious about side effects — the stuffy nose is GONE but they've been a bit more restless than usual. The medicine is great so far, but I am a bit paranoid about any severe reactions I read about. It's been a couple of days and I'm not sure if the nervousness and dizziness are from the medicine or just because my kid is feeling a bit off.

I'm an emergency room nurse and I’ve seen kids come in with allergic reactions to something like this. It's scary. So while we're all going through this, DO keep an eye out for any signs of a severe reaction. If you’re worried, don’t hesitate to call a doctor.

I gave this to my kid last winter and it worked wonders for the congestion but he had some trouble sleeping. I didn't notice anything severe, but we kept him off of it the day before a big day at daycare because he was so tired.

My pediatrician mentioned that with medications like this one, it's important to only use them for a day or two. The effects can wear off and then the medication can start causing more problems than it solves. Good luck!

I used Tussi-Pres last winter for my daughter. The dizziness was overwhelming and it was hard to tell if it was the medicine or the illness. She's a bit older than your child so I'm guessing that it can be more pronounced in younger kids.

Tussi-Pres Pediatric Liquid worked for my son last winter, but he had a really tough time sleeping. I would put him to bed and he would be bouncy for the next hour and a half. Made it a bit hard to manage everything else. He didn't have any trouble breathing or severe reaction, thankfully. But it was a bit of a rough ride.

I'm a nurse and I can tell you that while Tussi-Pres is generally safe, every child is different. If your kid is feeling nervous and excitable, it might be worth calling the doctor to discuss. Dextromethorphan can sometimes cause those symptoms, but it's important to rule out any other issues. Plus, if you're not sure if it's the medication or something else, better safe than sorry!

I used Tussi-Pres on my toddler and she slept horribly because of it. I'd definitely recommend taking note of how they're doing and maybe considering an alternative if you’re worried about the restlessness.

Talk to your doctor about it! That's what they're there for. I had to call mine when my kid had a bad reaction to something similar. Sometimes it's just a matter of keeping track of the side effects and finding the right balance.

My kid took this and it helped with the cough, but he was super restless and I couldn't get him to sleep. I was so scared that it was a severe reaction but he seemed fine in the morning.

Be careful with that stuff. I read that it can cause severe allergic reactions in some kids. Make sure to keep an eye out for any rash or swelling.
