I was prescribed Benicar HCT 20/12.5mg tablets to manage my high blood pressure but have been hearing about some serious side effects. Has anyone else had similar experiences or advice on how to manage these potential risks? I'm particularly worried about the possible eye problems and skin cancer risks. My doctor wasn't too concerned but I'd like to know if anyone can share some of their experiences or tips on how to stay safe while on this medication.

My doctor told me that the drug has two parts: olmesartan for blood vessel relaxation, and hydrochlorothiazide to get rid of extra salt and water in the body. For anyone who hasn't taken this yet, really weigh the risks and benefits and keep a close eye on any changes. I wasn't aware of the skin cancer risk, so I'll look into that with my doctor.

Be very careful with this one. I took it for a while and ended up with severe diarrhea. I couldn't even leave the house for a week. I had to stop taking it. It was horrible.

Just remember, hydration is key. I drink a gallon of water a day to stay safe. The skin cancer thing is scary. I had a mole removed a few years ago and it came back benign, so need to stay vigilant and get those checked.

I think everyone's experience is different. My mom took it for a few years without any issues, but my aunt had to stop because of the diarrhea. It's important to listen to your body and talk to your doctor if something doesn't feel right. Stay safe everyone!

I switched to Benicar HCT from another blood pressure medication, and it's been a game-changer. My blood pressure is well-controlled, but I do make sure to wear sunscreen and protective clothing to minimize the risk of skin cancer. I also got a yearly skin check with my doc. Is there any research on how effective the sun protection really is?
