I've recently been prescribed Brimonidine 0.1% Ophth Soln 15ml for ocular hypertension. I've heard about some serious side effects but haven't experienced any yet. What are your experiences with this medication? Are the side effects really as bad as some people say? Are there any tricks to using the drops properly to minimize side effects?

This is a tough one, but for me, it works a treat. Just a bit of a foreign body sensation, which is a minor issue. The burning sensation is a bit annoying but it subsides with time. I just have to make sure to use my drops regularly and I'm okay.

I got really bad eyelid swelling and had to stop using it. It was horrible. My doctor said it's rare but possible. Be careful

You gotta be really careful with these drops. I forgot to wash my hands once and ended up with an eye infection. Not fun.

If you experience any of the urgent side effects, like difficulty breathing or severe eye pain, go to the ER immediately. Don't wait it out. Better safe than sorry.

I had to stop using it because of severe allergic reaction that caused me swelling in the face and throat. It was terrifying. Luckily, it went away with the right treatment, but I was very lucky. It might seem very worrying, but I think I'm okay. One thing to be aware of is that if you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients, you might want to discuss it with your doctor before continuing use.

Serious question: does anyone know if you can use this and still wear contacts? I don't want to have to switch to glasses permanently.

I think this is a great drug, but definitely be aware of the side effects. It’s worth the trade-off for me, but everyone’s different.

I've experienced some blurred vision, and it's pretty annoying. Once it clears, I have to wait a bit before driving. But my doctor said it may go away in time, so that’s encouraging.

I've been using Brimonidine for a while now and haven't had any major issues. Just a bit of stinging at first, but it goes away quickly. Definitely make sure to wash your hands before applying and avoid touching the tip of the bottle to prevent contamination.
