I was recently prescribed Niacin ER 1000mg Tablets to help lower my 'bad' cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides and raise 'good' cholesterol (HDL). I've heard horror stories about the side effects, and I'm feeling anxious. Has anyone experienced severe side effects from Niacin ER 1000mg Tablets, or know someone who has? Should I be worried about the liver problems, high blood sugar, or that rare muscle problem (rhabdomyolysis). I'd love to hear your experiences and advice. I've been taking aspirin 30 minutes before taking this medication to help with the flushing. It does help but has anyone else tried this?

I had a friend who took Niacin ER and ended up in the hospital with severe liver issues. He had to stop taking it immediately. It's scary stuff, so I would definitely stay vigilant and report any unusual symptoms to your doctor right away.

I'm really worried about the muscle pain and weakness. My doctor mentioned rhabdomyolysis, and I've read horror stories about it online. Has anyone else had this issue or know what to look out for?

I've been on Niacin ER for a few years now and haven't experienced any severe side effects. I did have some initial flushing, but it subsided after a few weeks. I've also noticed that my 'good' cholesterol levels have improved significantly. Just make sure to follow your doctor's advice closely and get regular blood tests.

I've been on Niacin ER for a few months now, and while I do get some flushing, it's manageable. I agree with the aspirin trick, it really helps. Just make sure to stay hydrated and take it with food. No severe side effects so far, touch wood.
